Vietnam has more than 2,000 small- and
medium-sized handicraft villages.
A gala night to promote Vietnam’s tourism was held
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Dec. 20 as part of Vietnam’s campaign to develop
the industry in 2011.
With more than 70 craft villages throughout the
province, such as wood carving in La Xuyen, lacquer painting in Cat Dang, copper
casting in Tong Xa, bamboo/rattan weaving in Vinh Hao, silk weaving in Co Chat
and bonsai growing in Vi Khe, Nam Dinh Province has wider potential for the
development of craft village tourism.
An international yacht festival will take place in
the central province of Binh Thuan from Jan. 15-18, 2011, said Ngo Minh Chinh,
director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Dec. 20.
Thirty-five artists from Lao will participate in
the music and fashion shows during the Lao Culture Week in Vietnam on December
21-28.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT)
and the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia held a gala night on December 20 to
promote Vietnam’s tourism in Kuala Lumpur.
It may be chilly in the northern hemisphere as the
Christmas holidays approach, so a lot of people are dreaming of hot and sunny
beach holidays.
Aiming to meet increasing travel demand between
Taiwan and the Mekong River Delta, the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines
launched 13 direct flights from Taiwan (Taipei, Gao Xiong, and Tai Zhong) to Can
Tho and vice versa for the lunar New Year 2011 (Tet holiday).
The international resorts and spas management and
development firm Six Senses will open a new destination resort on Con Dao
Islands not far from the southern beach town of Vung Tau on December 20.
The Nam Hai resort has won an award for Commitment
to the Community which was given by the prestigious hospitality organization
"The Leading Hotels of the World".
Cu Lao Cham Islands, offshore island of Quang Nam
was recognized as the World Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO on May 29th 2009.
Vietnamese wartime posters featuring President Ho
Chi Minh or heroic images of liberation fighters have become popular souvenirs
for tourists.
More than 27,200 local tourists have bought
promotion tours this year to date, or twice the number last year, prompting the
Tourism Stimulus Team 2010 to ask the national tourism agency and more airlines
to join hands for new promotion programs next year.
The sharp increase in the number of tourists
visiting Vietnam is good news for hotel developers. Real estate developers,
anticipating the new wave of tourism development, have been rushing to build
more hotels.
The Vietnam Administration of Tourism has held a
program to survey and improve the quality of MICE
(Meeting-Incentive-Conference-Event) tours in Danang City, Quang Nam Province
and Ho Chi Minh City.
