Hanoi to expand walking street areas to promote traditional cuisine
Hanoi will expand the capital’s walking street areas to promote
its specialty and traditional cuisine, according to the Dong Xuan Joint Stock
Company, the project’s investor.
According Do Xuan Thuy, CEO of Dong Xuan Co., the walking street area will
include streets in the center of old quarter, in addition to the current night
market and walking streets in Hang Dao and Dong Xuan.
The new walking streets will include area around Sword Lake, Hang Buom-Ma
May-Hang Giay-Luong Ngoc Quyen-Ta Hien-Dao Duy Tu, where many buildings date
back to 18th century.
The unique complex that includes historic sites, Bach Ma and Quan De Temples,
old house at 87 Ma May, will create a distinguished space for the open walking
area, said Do Xuan Thuy.
In addition, the streets are selected thanks to its unique, diverse traditional
cuisine from both Vietnamese and Chinese-Vietnamese.
The project will help the restaurants and shops properly upgrade and promote
their products for tourism purposes.
Walking streets and the night market were opened three days a week eight years
ago, and the current area is overloaded due to the increasing number of
tourists.
