Da Lat Tourism Blossoms
Being endowed with beautiful landscapes, Lam Dong Province has
many cultural and historical sites. In addition, the province has a favorable
geographical location with a number of important transport routes, including
Highways 20, 27 and 28 and Lam Khuong Airport.
Lam Dong has effectively exploited its tourism potential, especially the city of
Da Lat, making a large contribution to the country's tourism revenue and
building a strong brand name for Da Lat-Lam Dong.
Da Lat is Lam Dong's most famous location. Located 1,500m above sea level, the
city is surrounded with mountain ranges and abundant flora. Da Lat has cool
temperate weather throughout the year. The city has a forest ecosystem,
magnificent landscapes and diverse cultural values expressed through its
European architectural style. With famous tourist sites of Tuyen Lam Lake, Suoi
Vang - Dankia, Love Valley, Datanla, Prenn, Pongour and Dam B'ri waterfalls, and
Lang Biang Mountain, Lam Dong Province has unique attractions for domestic and
international tourists. By effectively exploiting those advantages, the province
has offered a diversity of tourism products such as sightseeing tours, tours
combined with entertainment and sport activities and ecotourism which have lured
a large number of tourists annually.
In the recent years, the number of tourists to the province has continued
increasing. In 2006-2010, this figure increased 11 percent on average per year.
In 2010 alone, the province welcomed 3.15 million tourists, among which
international tourists accounted for more than five percent, marking a doubling
over 2005. Each tourist stays in the province for an average of 2.3-2.4 days.
Apart from an increase in the number of tourists, tourist sites have also grown
in both quality and quantity. A number of tourist sites have been improved and
highly appreciated. At present, the province has hundreds of tourist sites. The
number of high quality hotels has also increased. Up until now, there have been
720 facilities offering 12,000 rooms which can meet demand of 40,000 tourists.
Among those, 18 hotels (including 1,400 rooms) meet 3-5 star standards.
Since 2003, the province has attracted 240 investment projects in the tourism
sector with total investment capital of more than VND72.7 trillion. Eighty eight
projects reported investment capital of more than 19.7 trillion with 152
projects completing investment agreements with investment capital of nearly
VND53 trillion. In addition, many proposals to diversify tourism products have
been made such as project on Yersin itinerary, a project on building a Da Lat
history museum, a project on building a model of an old Da Lat street and a
project on establishing a mock Vietnamese countryside. A number of tours
exploring craft villages in Da Lat have been introduced, including tours to
visit embroidery, jam making and artichoke tea making villages. Through those
tours, tourism potential in the province has been effectively exploited,
contributing to building a strong tourism brand name and attracting domestic and
international tourists.
To continue enhance revenue from tourism, the province has worked with other
provinces and cities within and outside the country, especially with Ho Chi Minh
City to improve human resources for the tourism sector. Up until now, more than
55 percent of people working in the tourism sector have taken training courses.
The province has cooperated with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and
Ninh Thuan to connect tourism products among those provinces, enhancing the
quality of tourism products and promoting tourism development. In addition, Lam
Dong in conjunction with those provinces has implemented tourism promotion
programs to appeal for investors and tourists, creating equal and sustainable
development among those provinces.
