A photo exhibition on “Vietnam’s World Heritages” to open
The opening ceremony of an exhibition themed “Vietnam’s World
Heritages” will be held on October 10 on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of
the capital city’s Liberation Day (10/10/1954 – 10/10/2011).
The event aims to review and present awards to winners of a photo competition
entitled “Vietnam’s World Heritages” which was held from January to July, 2011.
The competition was co-organised by the Fine Art, Photography and Exhibition
Department and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in conjunction with
the Vietnam Photographic Artists’ Association, the National Cultural Heritage
Department and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
The artworks focus on Vietnam’s intangible and tangible heritages which have
been recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO). These include the complex of Hue Relics, My Son
Sanctuary, Hoi An ancient town, Thang Long Royal Citadel, Ha Long Bay, Phong
Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Nha Nhac (Hue Royal Court Music), the Central
Highlands’ gong cultural space, Bac Ninh folk songs, Ca Tru (ceremonial
singing), Giong festival at Phu Dong and Soc temples.
The exhibition attracted 282 photographers from 38 provinces and cities
nationwide who submitted a total of 2012 pieces of artwork, made up of 147 black
and white photos and 1865 colour images.
The examining board has selected 16 photos for recognition, with one first
prize, two second prizes, three third prizes and ten consolation prizes, being
given out. The exhibition will also display 206 other artworks. The first prize
went to ‘The treasures of living world’ by Tran Viet Van from Hanoi.
The selected photos will be showcased in cities, both at home and abroad, to
promote tourism and raise public awareness of Vietnam’s efforts to preserve its
heritage.
