Italy’s tourism experience valuable to Vietnam
The successes and failures of Italy’s tourism industry can be
very valuable for the policy-making process to develop Vietnam’s tourism
industry.
This was assessed by a Vietnamese cadre delegation in a refresher course on
tourism management run by Fondazione Campus University in Italy on December
3-18.
The 22-member delegation was led by Pham Minh Chinh, member of the Party Central
Committee and General
Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee.
During the course, many Italian professors gave lectures on the process of
tourism development and lessons learned. Special subjects on tourism were also
discussed.
The delegation also took a fact-finding tour of some famous places of interest
in Italy, including Florence, Venice, Verona, Piza and Rome.
In his speech, Mr Minh said Vietnam boasts great potential for developing
tourism into a key economic sector which will contribute to the country’s
socio-economic development.
With 45 world culture heritage sites, Italy is well-known for its outstanding
historical architecture and art. The country is placed fifth in the world in the
number of tourists, and 4th in revenue from tourism.
Italy received 42.7 million foreign arrivals, earning US$45.7 billion in 2008.
