International arrivals to Vietnam in January grow significantly
According to General Stastistics Office (GSO), the number of
international arrivals to Vietnam in January 2012 was estimated 630,000,
increasing by 6.2% in comparison with December 2011 and 24.8% over the same
period of 2011. This is a record monthly figure ever.
In January, by means of transportation, international arrivals to Vietnam by air
reached 530,000, an increase of 29% from January 2011; by sea: 5,000 (up 25%);
by road: 95,000 (up 5.6%).
By purposes of trips, the number of leisure tourists was 365,000 arrivals, up
21.6% compared to January 2011; those for business: 110,000 (up 61.9%); for
visiting relatives: 120,000 (up 15.3%); for others: 35,000 (up 7.5%).
International arrivals from most of markets achieved positive growth, led by
Cambodia with 95.0%, followed by China (93.4%), Taiwan (65.3%), England (39.7%),
France (33.3%), USA (26.8%), Japan (26.2%), Malaysia (18.3%), South Korea
(17.0%), only Australia down by 24.8%.
Thus, Vietnam tourism sector would likely to fulfil the target of welcoming 6.5
million international arrivals in 2012.
