Tourism sector seeks ways to stop tourist harassment
Officials of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT)
have asked travel firms to immediately report to VNAT any case of harassment of
visitors, so the agency will be able to deal with these cases properly.
Travel firms are also requested to send a monthly report on their operation,
their proposals and requests for assistance to the VNAT.
VNAT’s officials say that these are measures to quickly deal with difficulties
of travel firms at present and to improve quality of tourism services.
Harassment over tourists has been reported at some tourist sites. Recently, an
American blogger – Matt Kepnes – posted an article entitled "Why I'll never
return to Vietnam" on Huffington Post, telling the black side of Vietnam’s
tourism.
VNAT’s Vice head Nguyen Manh Cuong said that the domestic tourism industry has
been improved in recent years but there are still some problems. The top
solution of VNAT is raising the responsibility of tourism officials and local
governments which have tourist attractions.
