Research into the impact of climate change on Da Nang’s tourism
As part of the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN)
project, a research programme entitled “Assessing the Vulnerability of Da Nang’s
Tourism Activities to Climate Change” started in the city on Monday.
It has been developed by the Da Nang Steering Committee for the Response to
Climate Change and Sea Level Rises (CCCO) and the city’s Department of Culture,
Sport and Tourism. The project is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and the
Institute for Social and Environmental Transition.
The research programme will be run until June of this year. It will be
implemented along with local tourism development projects, and its action plan
is to enhance climate change mitigation by 2020.
The focus will be put on using the geographic information system (GIS) to
evaluate the impact of climate change on local tourism activities. In addition,
the programme will help the city’s tourism sector formulate action plans to cope
with this issue in the future.
Da Nang is the first city in Viet Nam to give top priority to researching into
the negative effects of climate change on its tourism sector. The city’s tourism
sector has boasted a rapid growth in revenue, and an increase in the number of
tourism products and activities, in recent years.
