Preserving traditional weaving in ASEAN countries
An international workshop on traditional weaving in ASEAN
countries was held in Thai Nguyen province on March 17.
The event falls within the framework of the 4th exhibition of the weaving
industry in ASEAN countries, which has drawn the participation of experts,
researchers, scientists and businesses from 10 ASEAN member countries and their
dialogue partners including Japan, the US, Canada and India.
At the event, delegates agreed on a number of measures to renew traditional
weaving in the participating countries.
Presentations focused on such topics as the heritage of Vietnam’s weaving
industry, developing weaving in Cambodia and Indonesia, modernising the weaving
industry in India, the traditional weaving of the Thai ethnic group in Mai Chau
district, Hoa Binh province, Vietnam during the process of international
integration, and the growth of the garment industry in Thailand.
Delegates examined the traditional and modern economic and cultural aspects of
weaving in relation to economic development strategies of countries during the
integration process.
The weaving industry will continue to develop in today’s society and have a
great influence on related industries such as fashion.
Creativity is also a key factor that will help every country integrate into the
current world economy.
