Saigontourist donates 500,000 yen to earthquake victims
Saigontourist Travel Service Company and Vietnam Airlines last
week conducted a charity program in Sendai, Japan – an area badly-hit by 2011’s
natural disasters – and donated 500,000 yen to victims of the devastation.
The money was raised from a program to ask for VND100,000 from each guest who
joined tours to Japan to help the earthquake and tsunami victims initiated by
Saigontourist since March 2012. Apart from the cash donation, the company also
handed gifts to local people through the Commerce, Industry and Tourism
Department of Sendai in Miyagi province.
It is expected that the local authority and residences this month will kick off
a campaign named ‘Sendai & Miyagi, where smiles blossom’ to promote tourist
attractions in these areas to travelers.
Last year, Saigontourist offered a tour to bring tourists to Sendai to become
volunteers for a day as they and members of charity organizations in Japan
helped reconstruct the disaster-hit city.
