Da Nang attacks disguised beggars and hawkers
From July 1 to 10, Da Nang City will make a raid on disguised
beggars and those who employ children as street vendors.
Accordingly, the Da Nang Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs will
call for beggars to come back home and punish hawkers who bother tourists at
tourist sites in the urban districts.
Upon detection of beggars and hawkers who violate the city’s regulations, people
are encouraged to inform the local authorities through the phone numbers
0903.550.770 or 05113.550.550. The denunciator will receive a reward of
VND200,000 ($10).
Mr. Tran Bon, an official from the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social
Affairs, said those who repeat the violations for several times will be sent to
social welfare centers for classification before being sent home.
"For hawkers who are Da Nang residents, we will instruct them to operate at the
regulated area," he said.
"No beggar" is one of the five goals that the Da Nang tourism sector has been
striving for years. However, beggars have reappeared in the city recently.
In March 2012, the city held a dialogue with beggars and hawkers in order to
persuade them to abide by the city’s regulations.
In the first half of 2013, Da Nang punished 215 hawkers and 35 beggars who
violated the city’s rules.
