Cambodia heeds staff training for tourism
Cambodia is focusing on perfecting infrastructure and human
resources in order to help its tourism sector fulfil the target of welcoming
7-7.5 million arrivals by 2020.
According to Tit Chantha, Secretary of State of the Tourism Ministry, the
country is exerting every effort to bolster the spearhead sector, which is
expected to blossom once the ASEAN Economic Community is formed in 2015.
To reach the aforesaid goal, Cambodia needs to provide trainings for
30,000-40,000 tourism workers each year with the aim to raise the total number
from the current 350,000 to 800,000 by 2020.
The country has been coordinating with domestic and EU organisations in training
about 1,500 experts in the field within the next three years.
According to the ministry’s statistics, arrivals to Cambodia numbered 3.5
million in 2012 and is expected to hit 4 million this year./.
