Introducing Classical Opera to tourists
Tuong (Classical Opera), also called Hat Boi in the South, is one
of the most classical and scholarly arts of Viet Nam. It was formed on the basic
of folk stage performance during the Ly-Tran dynasties and became very popular
nationwide during the following centuries.
Under the policy of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of strengthening
to link cultural activities with tourism, the Viet Nam National Tuong Theatre
has built an art program themed “Royal Palace Night” which was introduced to
public media and travel enterprises in a seminar held by VNAT and Viet Nam
National Tuong Theatre on 26th Feb.
The event had the presence of the Deputy General Director of VNAT, Mr. Nguyen
Manh Cuong.
At the seminar, the participants highly appreciated the artistic quality of the
program and believed it would become a special product of Ha Noi tourism.
However, in order to attract tourists to this folk stage performance, the
theatre should pay more attention to such issues as: interactive activities
between tourists and artists; interpretation for foreign tourists; suitable
content selection for different audience groups… In particular, the theatre also
should focus on promoting the product to the public.
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong suggested the theatre should
develop the program into a professional tourism product and be flexible in
performing activities to fully meet tourists’ demands. In addition, travel
businesses should also cooperate with the theatre to attract more tourists
enjoying this unique traditional art. The VNAT will continue to support the
theatre to introduce Tuong to the public.
He hoped that the press and media will help to promote Tuong to the audiences,
contributing to the national cultural preservation.
