Discover bird’s nest islands in Vietnam

Coming to these islands, visitors have the opportunity to see bird nests on steep cliffs. Most of these islands are in the central and southern regions of Vietnam.
Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa
Referring to the birds’ nest islands, the most famous place is Nha Trang in the central province of Khanh Hoa. However, this is not the proper name of an island, but a group of islands in Nha Trang, including Hon Noi, Hon Ngoai, and others.
This group of islands is about 12 nautical miles from the mainland. From Cau Da port in Nha Trang city, visitors must take a boat for nearly 2 hours to get to these islands.
April to September is the time for swallows to build their nest on the islands. The weather at this period is also very favorable for tourists. After studying the life of swallows, visitors can enjoy seafood and nutritious bird’s nest porridge at the Hon Noi restaurant on the island.
Cu Lao Cham - Quang Nam
Cu Lao Cham or Cham Island is about 1.5 hours by boat from the ancient town of Hoi An. It is called the kingdom of birds’ nests. On this popular tourist island, swallows often build their nests in the caves of Hon Kho, Hon Lao and Hon Tai. These are beautiful caves with the highest outputs of birds’ nests on the island.
From Cham Island, visitors can take a boat to Hon Lao (Lao Island) to visit the temple worshipping the ancestors of birds’ nest collecting trade.
Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh
Quy Nhon is not as famous as Nha Trang and Cham Island for birds’ nests but if you have the opportunity to visit Quy Nhon City in Binh Dinh Province, you should not miss the island of birds’ nests named Phuong Mai peninsula. To come here, you have to take a boat trip of over two hour long from Hai Cang Ward in Quy Nhon City.
Con Dao - Ba Ria Vung Tau
With 16 large and small beautiful islands, Con Dao is considered a tourist paradise, with many fun activities like diving to see corals and watching sea turtles laying eggs. It is also a very suitable place for travelers who want to understand the lives of swallows.
Swallows mainly build their nests in the caves on Tho, Bong Lan, Bay Canh, Tre Nho, Viet Minh and Dam Tre islands. Tours to some islands are now available.
In addition, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the bird sanctuary on Tre Nho and Trung islands.
Quang Trach - Quang Binh
This is a new tourist site in the central province of Quang Binh. From Vung Chua, just over 20 minutes by boat, tourists set their feet on this green island to see swallows and their nests. From here visitors can see Hon La and Hon Gio Islets and Vung Chua – the eternal resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
