Foreign tourists to Vietnam during Tet Ky Suu
According to the General Statistics Office, the
country is estimated to receive 370,000 foreigners in January, down 11 percent
from a year ago. Numbers of visitors from the Republic of Korea and the US fell
significantly, while those from France rose 51.1 percent, Malaysia 23.3 percent
and Singapore 26.6 percent.
The Da Lat tourist resort in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong has
received more than 110,000 visitors, including 5,000 foreigners, during the long
New Year holiday. All the hotels and guesthouses have been fully occupied. Room
services have also increased by between 25-30 percent compared to the period
before the New Year.
More than 100,000 people have made a pilgrimage to Yen Tu Mount – the cradle of
Vietnamese Buddhism - in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh over the past
six days.
The province upgraded National Highway No18 to Yen Tu to facilitate travel and
ease traffic congestion. Phuc Xuyen Transport Company purchased 20 more buses to
serve the pilgrims.
The Yen Tu festival is launched on the 10th day of the first lunar month and
this year it falls on February 4.
