HCMC welcomes year of Monkey with colorful Flower Street
On the occasion of traditional Tet holiday 2016, Ho Chi Minh City
will hold Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2016 under the theme "Ho Chi Minh City -
Peace, Prosperity and Development". The event has been held annually since 2004.
This year, Nguyen Hue Flower Street will open a day earlier than before, from 5
– 12 Feb, 2016 (27th day of the 12th lunar month, 2015 to 5th day of 1st lunar
month, 2016).
Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2016 will be organized on Nguyen Hue Street (for
pedestrians only), which will stretch 720 meters from Le Thanh Ton Street to Ton
Duc Thang Street. There will be three sections displayed from Le Loi-Nguyen Hue
intersection to Ton Duc Thang Street, featuring different sub-themes:
“Solidarity-Peace”, “Dynamic-Creative” and “Integration-Prosperity”.
Mascot of Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2016 is the Monkey family which will be
placed at the center of the street. Throughout the length of the Flower Street
will be decorated with hundred kinds of flowers performing the solidarity and
full of energy of a dynamic city.
Besides, the area around Statue of President Ho Chi Minh (in front of Ho Chi
Minh City People’s Committee Headquarter) will be filled with 36 pots of yellow
apricot blossom trees. At the exhibition area, visitors will have chance to
recall Uncle Ho’s journey to save the nation as well as to see the City’s
achievements.
One of the special features of Nguyen Hue Flower Street 2016 is the exhibition
of 15 large sculptures in different materials. These works were awarded at Ho
Chi Minh City International Sculpture Camp 2015.
In addition, on the occasion of 12th anniversary of Nguyen Hue Flower Street
(2004-2016), many interesting art activities such as light-art performance,
street festival… will be organized during this time.
Nguyen Hue Flower Street has become a cultural feature of “Sai Gon’s Tet” which
is indispensable to local people and tourists on Tet holiday. This annual event
attracted more than 1 million visitors every year.
