Gastronomy gives Vietnamese a taste of Peru’s culture
A Peruvian gastronomy week will provide visitors with useful
information and the best experience about the culture of the South American
country when it takes place in Ha Noi from September 21-27.
Luis Tsuboyama, Chargé d’Affaires at the Peruvian Embassy in Viet Nam, said the
week was being held on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the countries’
establishment of diplomatic ties (November 14, 1994) and Peru’s organisation of
the Asia–Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in November.
The Peruvian cuisine promotion week, the second of its kind in Viet Nam, aims to
popularise the country’s culinary culture and beauties among local people
through various activities, including a cuisine festival, a painting exhibition,
a workshop on Peru’s tourism and farm produce and a music and fashion show.
Notably, a seminar will give those in attendance some insight into a special
Peruvian variety of potato and offer them dishes made from this potato. Products
representative of the country will also be displayed at a painting exhibition.
The week is being held by the Peruvian Embassy, Viet Nam’s military-run
telecommunication group Viettel and Vietnamese companies that work with Peruvian
goods.
Luis Tsuboyama said trade between Peru and Viet Nam had seen strong growth in
recent years, from US$40 million in 2005 to over US$395 million in 2015.
Viettel and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) are running
profitable projects in Peru, whose AJE Group and Aqua Expeditions are operating
in the beverage and tourism industries in Viet Nam, he added.
