Silver Sea

      About 180 kilometers off Vung Tau Town, Con Dao is blessed with forests, lakes, mountains and a silver sea.
Con Dao archipelago has 16 islands and islets with a total area of 72 square kilometers.
The main island, Con Dao or Con Son, about 50 square kilometers, takes the form of a bear.
The main road on the island, which starts at Con Son Airport, goes along the south and the east coastline about 30 kilometers to Dau Doc.
Traveling by motorbike on this deserted and gorgeous road, flanked by mountains and sea, is a memorable experience.
Northeast of the town is the windiest part of the island.
A windfarm is being built at Chim Chim Cape.
Tau Be Cape, 122 meters above sea level, looks over breathtaking North East Bay.
Con Dao’s 200-kilometer coastline boasts more than 20 beaches.
Dam Trau, 13 kilometers from downtown, is crowned the island’s queen of beaches.
The track to Dam Trau Beach is quite hidden.
Turn right 500 meters from Con Son Airport, follow the tiny signboard to Mieu Cau, and continue down the dirt track for 700 meters.
It is especially beautiful when the sun sets.
Other beautiful beaches include Lo Voi Beach, An Hai Beach, Nhat Beach, Dat Doc, Ot and Vong.
Trips to the islets are the highlight of Con Dao.
Con Dao National Park comprises fourteen out of 16 islands, 14,000 hectares of sea, as well as a 20,500 hectare marine buffer zone.
The underwater world is amazing with colorful coral reefs and seagrass ecosystems.
Con Dao abounds with 822 plant, 144 animal and 1,300 marine species.
The best places for snorkeling and reef walks are Ong Dung Beach, Ben Dam, Hon Tai, Hon Tre, Hon Cau, Hon Bay Canh and Ca Map Cape.
Last but not least, try the delicious fresh seafood at ATI restaurant on Ton Duc Thang Street.
Motorbikes and vans can be rented at hotels.
The national park provides boat trips starting from US$100/boat.
Fishing, snorkeling and diving equipment are available for an extra fee.
