The 220th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory in Hanoi
A festival was held at the Dong Da Park in Hanoi
on January 30 to mark the 220th anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory led by
national hero Nguyen Hue over Qing invaders. Addressing the event, Chairman of
the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao praised Hanoi’s thousand-year-old
culture and tradition of patriotism with the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory being one
of the most majestic events.
Thousands of local people, visitors, and delegations from northern Nam Dinh
province, Hai Phong, Quy Nhon and Da Nang cities participated in the festival.
Participants described the triumph on the fifth day of the Year of the Rooster
in 1789 as a convergence of patriotism, the spirit of national independence and
freedom, the traditional solidarity and bravery of the Vietnamese people.
The victory of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da went down into the nation’s history as an
immortal epic of the struggle for national construction and defence.
A series of art performances and traditional games such as dragon and gong
dances, martial arts and human chess then took place at the festival.
