Vietnam Airlines asked to become strong regional airline
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung
has asked Vietnam Airlines to make the best of the domestic and regional
aviation markets to meet the country’s requirements for development and become
one of powerful airlines in the region.
During a working session with Vietnam Airlines on March 25, Mr Dung said that in
the context of the global economic recession, the airline should draw up
specific plans to maintain its routes, flights and personnel, save fuel, improve
services and pay attention to personnel training.
He agreed with Vietnam Airlines’ proposal to purchase large airplanes and join
the global aviation alliance.
According to Vietnam Airlines General Director Pham Ngoc Minh, last year the
airline was one of very few in the region to survive the global economic crisis.
It transported more than 8.8 million passengers and earned a total revenue of
nearly VND27,000 billion. It plans to carry 9.4 million passengers and generate
VND23,600 billion in revenue this year.
