Double record setting cable car inaugurated
The world’s longest non-stop
cable car was officially opened at Ba Na Mountain on the outskirts of Da Nang
Wednesday in the presence of President Nguyen Minh Triet.
The 5,042-meter cable car from the foot of Ba Na Mountain to the summit of Mt.
Vong Nguyet is recognized by Guiness as the longest as well as having the
greatest height difference between the upper and lower stations - 1,291.81
meters.
The VND300-billion (US$16.88 million) system has 22 support pylons and carries
94 cars able to transport 1,500 passengers an hour.
Also Wednesday, Triet attended the inauguration of the suspension bridge, which
crosses Da Nang Bay and links Son Tra and Hai Chau districts.
The 405-meter cable-stayed Thuan Phuoc Bridge should do much to promote tourism
and overall development in the area, particularly in Son Tra Peninsula.
