Vietnam Airlines’ Eur5.2 million case to open today
The court case between Vietnam
Airlines and an Italian lawyer, Liberti, will begin today, April 2, in Rome,
Italy.
This is an extremely significant trial for Vietnam Airlines, which is seeking
the annulment of the verdict of the Rome lower court in 2000.
The Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, Trinh Hong Quang, who is
leading the group’s delegation to this trial, affirmed that it is absurd to ask
Vietnam Airlines to pay Eur5.2 million to the lawyer Liberati. The group will do
everything to protect its legal rights and interests.
Two arguments that Vietnam Airlines’ lawyers will pursue at the trial are,
firstly, Vietnam Airlines was informed too late about the case, at the moment
the deadline for appeals ran out; and secondly, the group’s lawyers discovered
evidence of collusion between lawyer Liberati and Falcomar Company to cause
losses for Vietnam Airlines.
Vietnam Airlines’ lawyers said that this might be the last session of the lower
court before the Rome Court made the final conclusion later this year. However,
experts say that this 15-year-old case could prolong for many more years.
