Consultation contract on urban railways in HCM City signed
A consultation contract worth
1.26 million EUR on technical assistance for two urban railways in Ho Chi Minh
City was signed on April 3 between the city and Idom Ingenieria Y Consultoria SA
of Spain.
Funding for contract will come from the Spanish Government’s non-refundable aid.
Under the contract, Idom Ingenieria Y Consultoria SA will develop a feasibility
study for the project to build the urban railway No. 5 at a cost of 718,000 EUR
and a study for the urban railway No. 6 at a cost of 548,000 EUR.
According to Nguyen Do Luong, head of the HCM City Urban Railways Management
Board, route No. 5 has a length of 20km running from Can Giuoc bus station to
Sai Gon bridge with a design capacity of 352,000 passengers a day. Route No. 6
from Ba Queo market to Phu Lam roundabout is 6km long and will be capable to
carry 100,000 passengers a day.
Once completed, the railways are expected to help reduce traffic jams and create
momentum for the city to develop.
