Northwest Airlines opens route to Vietnam
Northwest Airlines will be the
second US airline to fly to Vietnam after being granted a licence to operate a
service from Ho Chi Minh City to San Francisco and Los Angeles by the Civil
Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV).
From June 1, Northwest Airlines will use the Boeing 757 aircraft to take
passengers to Vietnam via Tokyo in Japan.
United Airlines was the first US airline to be allowed to start a daily service
between the US and Vietnam, via Hong Kong. The national flag carrier, Vietnam
Airlines, is scheduled to open a route to the US next year.
Last year, the US provided over US$1 million for Vietnam to upgrade Vietnam
Airlines’s security and safety procedures to meet with US standards.
Northwest Airlines belongs to Delta Airlines, the biggest airline in the world
and runs direct flights to Tokyo, connecting with many cities across the US.
Delta Airlines transports 170 million of passengers every year on flights to 375
destinations in 66 countries and territories around the world.
