Forging state official to take ancient document about Paracel Islands
An official from the Ly Son
District People’s Committee said that after the media reported about a valuable
ancient document related to Hoang Sa (Paracel Islands), a man posed as a local
state official to take the document from the Dang family but he failed.
A middle-aged man came to Mr. Dang Len’s home and appointed himself as an
official from the People’s Committee of Ly Son District to borrow the ancient
document.
Dang Len was not at home at that moment. The man willingly searched Dang Len’s
altar but he didn’t find the document. Dang Len’s wife, Nguyen Thi Ba, suspected
this man and reported him to the local authorities.
The ancient document that is held by the Dang family is a royal ordinance of
King Minh Mang sending a crew of three ships with 24 sailors to the Hoang Sa (Paracel)
Islands on April 15, 1835.
In the past, some people posed as state officials to come to Ly Son District to
seek old documents related to the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Spratly Islands). Some
families accidentally gave them the original documents.
The authorities of Ly Son District have joined to work with related agencies to
protect this valuable document.
