“1,000-Year Flow” to celebrate 1,000th Thang Long – Hanoi Anniversary
Dao Anh Khanh and a group of
contemporary artists in Hanoi will celebrate the 1,000th Thang Long – Hanoi
anniversary with the “1,000-Year Flow” program, which will take place within one
year.
The “1,000-Year Flow” comprises three big events, which are the mixture of
various contemporary arts.
The first event, “Light Conversion,” will be held in the first week of November
2009, after the Hanoi Liberation Day on October 10. This will be a large
exhibition of installation art, sculptures, paintings, video art, and audio art.
Artists will use light and sound as materials. The exhibition will convey
contemporary messages about the beauty of humanity and the 1,000-year-old
capital city and reflect the aspirations and responsibility to build a more
civilized capital.
The second event is “Sound Bridge,” which will be organized in February 2010,
after the lunar New Year 2010. This will be a contemporary music performance
supported by installation and moving art.
“Sound Bridge” will feature contemporary music and Vietnamese traditional music
arts like ca tru, tuong, and cheo, played by traditional musical instruments.
Artists want to show the procession from traditional to modernity.
The third event is “Tree of Life,” which will take place in October 2010, the
most important month for activities to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of
Thang Long – Hanoi capital. This will be also the largest event of the
“1,000-Year Flow.”
Based on the idea that each man, each city, and each country has its own life in
the ups and downs of time, Dao Anh Khanh will build 36 bamboo-made installation
artworks, which will be between 7-25 metres high to symbolize the vitality of
Hanoians.
These artworks will be the background for a large performance by Dao Anh Khanh
and over 100 artists. They will move together to show the vitality of Hanoi in
the past and at present.
Making the “1,000-Year Flow” with Dao Anh Khanh will be other artists, namely
Nguyen Bao Toan, Dang Thi Khue, Quach Phuong Dong, Dinh Quan, Nguyen Minh Tam,
Le Quang Ha, Doan Hoang Lam, Nguyen Ngoc Lam, Vu Bich Thuy, Nguyen Quang Huy,
and Vuong Thao, with music by Xuan Son, Kim Ngoc, Vu Nhat Tan, and Tri Minh.
The project will also have the participation of some international artists.
These events will take place at the 5,000 square metre Studio Anh Khanh and on
one kilometre of the Ngoc Thuy – Long Bien dike. Artists will start working on
this project in May 2009.
