Antiques of Dong Son civilisation
More than 100 antiques
belonging to the Dong Son culture, which have been discovered since 2004, are
now on display at the Vietnam History Museum, to celebrate the 85th year of the
Dong Son culture being discovered.
Most of the antiques are bronze and pottery objects which feature classic Dong
Son style. Many of the exhibits are being displayed for the first time, which
previous collections of Dong Son antiques in Vietnam and the world don’t have.
Among antiques are man-shaped, deer-shaped, cow-shaped and elephant-shaped
lamps, which reflect the erstwhile beliefs of the Ca River-Dong Son centre, with
famous Vac village.
There is also a bronze drum decorated with boat-pulling man patterns. This drum
has a different shape and patterns than other bronzes unveiled so far. It was
unearthed in the Central Highlands, which proves the strong spread of the Dong
Son culture and the unification in diversity of Dong Son culture in Vietnam.
The exhibition also presents bronze jars, man-shaped daggers, container-shaped
bronze lamps, production tools, weapons, and jewellery, all typical of Dong Son
culture in the north and Dong Son culture in the south, bringing about a new
look on this civilisation.
The museum also introduces a special collection of pottery works which show the
connection between the Dong Son and Sa Huynh civilisations.
