An Giang opens first ‘agriculture tour’ for foreign tourists
The Mekong Delta province of
An Giang Sunday opened its “Agriculture Tour” program after two years of
preparation.
The first thirty international tourists are participating in the tour that will
have them stay with local farmers trained to ensure a comfortable stay for
foreign guests.
The 2007-2009 project, which costs 300,000 euros (US$396,000) and is funded by
the Dutch agency Agriterra via Vietnam Farmers’ Union, is expected to benefit
Long Xuyen Town’s My Hoa Hung Commune and Tinh Bien District’s mountainous
ethnic commune of Van Giao.
The tour – which can be from one to three days - picks tourists at the Tan Son
Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and takes them to Long Xuyen to visit six
places including floral cloth making villages of the Cham and Khmer people and
the Pol Pot war crimes relic. The tour costs between VND300,000-500,000 ($17-28)
per person depending on its duration.
