Largest royal pottery decree in Vietnam
3.5m in height, over 8m in
width, comprising 214 pottery-made Han characters, the “Chieu Doi Do” (Edict on
the Transfer of the Capital) at the Do Temple in Bac Ninh province is the
largest royal pottery decree in Vietnam.
The management board of Do Temple, dedicated to the eight Ly Kings in Dinh Bang
commune, Tu Son district, Bac Ninh province, has inaugurated this pottery “Chieu
Doi Do”. The work was made on 30sq.m of land in front of the temple’s gate, to
celebrate the 1,000th Thang Long-Hanoi anniversary.
This is part of the Edict on the Transfer of the Capital written by King Ly Thai
To in Spring 1010, to move Dai Co Viet’s capital from Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh province
to Dai La (Hanoi at present). The edit has 214 characters, to commemorate the
214 years of the Ly Dynasty.
The pottery-made edict at the Do Temple was made by the family of Pham Xuan Hoa,
a craftsman from Bat Trang Pottery Village. The decree was written by the Huong
Nam Han Nom class in Hanoi.
