Vietnam earmarks US $43 mil. For Laos to build road
The Vietnamese Government has
just decided to earmark credit worth US $43 million for a project to build and
upgrade Muong Khoa - Tay Trang road.
Although the sum is modest, it is significant as it comes at a time when Vietnam
and other countries in the world are suffering from an economic recession.
In fact, the project is strategically important to Lao socio-economic
development as well as defense and security in northern Laos.
The road, Lao National Highway 2E, also links the Lao province of Pongsaly and
the Vietnamese province of Dien Bien, an important aspect while the highway 279
between Tay Trang and Dien Bien in Vietnam is being constructed.
The Highway 2E project lies within the 10-year Asian Highway Network project
that will connect many Asian capital cities.
When its is finished, it can institute improved trade opportunities for Laotians
in the region as Lao firms in northern Laos can easily import and export through
the use of the Vietnamese seaport at Hai Phong.
