World largest cave found and explored by UK explorers
A new cave within the Phong
Nha-Ke Bang cave system has just been explored by a UK Cave Exploring Group
during its visit to the renowned Vietnamese natural tourist resort.
During the exploration from April 10th – 14th, Howard Limbirt and his group
discovered a cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang, which is considered the world largest.
In fact, the cave was first located by a local named Khanh in 2008 and he called
it called Son Doong, but he found only the mouth of the cave and did not explore
the natural wonder.
Son Doong is located under En cave, but the way to the cave is very difficult.
As the cave is under water, the current is fast flowing, so the group could only
explore 6.5 km.
According to Howard Limbirt, the cave could be 5 times larger than Phong Nha,
even larger than Deer cave in Malaysia, which is regarded as the world’s largest
one at 2 km in length, 100m in height and 90 m in width. Meanwhile, Son Doong is
about 6 km long, 200 m high and 150 m wide.
The group is expected to report its findings to the Quang Binh Provincial
People’s Committee.
