Biggest ever sea cucumber found off Binh Thuan
Biggest ever sea cucumber found off Binh Thuan
A sea cucumber, weighing 3,98
kg and 47,5 cm long, was found on Phu Quy island in the southern province of
Binh Thuan.
The marine animal (holothurin thelenota anax) was later taken to the Nha Trang
Research Institute for Aquaculture No 3.
According to Vu Dinh Dap, Deputy Head of the Institute, the sea cucumber breaks
the Vietnamese record in both length and weight.
This is a very rare animal, which lives at a depth of between 10-30 metres under
the sea and its decreasing numbers are putting the species under threat.
