Overseas Vietnamese visit Con Dao District
A delegation of 30 overseas
Vietnamese from 10 countries visited a number of historical sites in Con Dao
District in southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on April 24.
The delegation, led by former Vice State President Truong My Hoa and Deputy
Foreign Minister -cum-Head of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs
Nguyen Thanh Son, presented 20 million VND and gifts to 20 poor families and
AO/dioxin victims and donated 32 million VND and 200 USD to help preserve the
district’s historic relics.
The overseas Vietnamese association in Russia also presented 1,000 USD to the
Vietnamese Fatherland Front’s Committee in Con Dao District.
The delegation then visited the local museum and Phu Tuong and Phu Tho prisons
to hear stories about Con Dao, the former barbarous prison, built by French
colonialists to hold opponents and lasted until the US-backed Saigon regime.
