Buddha’s Birthday week in Hue
The exhibition of Phu
Xuan-Hue’s Buddhist cultural heritage opened on March 5 at the Lieu Quan Centre
for Buddhist Culture in the central city of Hue, under the Buddha’s Birthday
Week celebrations in Hue city from May 2-9.
The exhibition introduces a collection of pictures of ancient tombs and epitaphs
from the 17th-19th centuries in the central provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue,
and Quang Nam of the Vietnam Culture and Art Sub-Institute in Hue city and a
collection of ancient ceramic items, statues and paintings on Buddhism of
researcher Tran Dinh Son.
The Buddha’s Birthday Week will include the following major activities: a
procession of Buddha images from Dieu De Pagoda to Tu Dam Pagoda on May 8; the
Buddha’s Birthday great celebration at Tu Dam Pagoda and a performance by flower
boats and a lantern release on the Huong River on May 9. Also at Tu Dam Pagoda,
there will be a special music show on May 7 and a free vegetarian food programme
from May 7-9.
