Quang Trung Emperor’s statute put in place
The construction companies
have finished putting up a marble statue of a monument to the national hero
Quang Trung on Ban mountain in the former imperial city of Hue.
The Emperor’s coronation ceremony took place in the city in the spring of 1789
before he abruptly led his army to the North and drove Qing’s army out of
Vietnam.
Including the pedestal the huge statue is 21 metres high made from 18 slabs,
weighing 10-60 tons each.
The memorial site covers 9,5 ha. Apart from the statue these are temples
dedicated to Emperor Quang Trung, Empress Le Ngoc Han and the mandarins of Tay
Son dynasty and a museum displaying documents and objects from the Tay Son
revolution. The total construction work costs VND19.8 billion.
