Viettel launches mobile service for foreign tourists

      Viettel Telecom on May 15 unveiled the first-ever pre-paid mobile service in Vietnam for foreign travellers, called Tourist Sim, with flexible times, attractive charges and many helpful information search services.

Foreign tourists in Vietnam often face difficulties in searching for information on services, tourist sites, means of transport, etc. Using Viettel’s Tourist Sim package, they will be provided with free, daily updated information about the above fields, by sending text messages to 5055.
Besides this function, Tourist Sim is very attractive in terms of charges and duration, with cards worth $10 and $5. The charges for outgoing international calls is VND3,240 per minute (equivalent to US$ 18 cent), 10% lower than the charges for international calls of other services. The charge for an outgoing international text message is VND2,160 or US$12 cent, 13.6% less than the current charge.
Depending on their location in Vietnam, foreign travellers can charge more money to their account by buying cards worth VND50,000, VND100,000, VND200,000, VND300,000 and VND500,000. In addition, users don’t have to pay GPRS subscription fees and are supported in English and Chinese through directory enquiries at 18008168.
Viettel’s Deputy Director Nguyen Viet Dung said: “Around 4 million foreign visitors go to Vietnam a year and telecom service is one of essential services for them during their stay in Vietnam. So Viettel launches this service for this group of clients.”
“By providing the service, with supportive information and convenient distribution system, we believe that foreign visitors will be very pleased when they come to Vietnam. This is also a factor contributing to the development of the country’s tourism industry,” Hung said.
Viettel has developed a distribution system for this service at airports, tourist sites, hotels and resorts.
