Vietnamese translator receives Czech prize
Vietnamese translator Duong
Tat Tu received the Premia Bohemica prize for the promotion of Czech literature
at the 15th International Book Fair in Prague, the Czech Republic.
The translator plans to publish a collection of works by writer Bozena Nemcova
(1820 – 62) and philosopher Tomas Garrigue Masaryk (1850-1937).
The first Vietnamese citizen to graduate from Charles University in Prague in
the early 1960s, Tu said he loved Czech culture and literature and had tried to
introduce Vietnamese readers to the beauty of the Czech spirit through his
translations.
Tu, 73, did not come to Prague for health reasons. His daughter accepted the
prize on his behalf.
