Thousands worship Buddha relics in Hanoi
Vietnamese Vice President
Nguyen Thi Doan and government officials were among a crowd of over 2,000
pilgrims to behold Buddhist treasures-Sarinikahatu (things left after the
physical bodies of the Buddha or eminent monks were burnt) at the Quan Su
pagoda, Hanoi on June 6.
Quan Su pagoda in Hanoi, also Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Headquarters, held a grand
ceremony to receive the Buddhist Treasures. They are invaluable gifts from Most
Veteran and shaman Visuddhisaro Mahathera.
The Supreme Advisor to the Thai Royal Buddhist Sangha and Patriarch of the Ho
Chi Minh City-based Giac Quang Monastery also donated Buddhist treasures to Bai
Dinh Pagoda, the biggest of its kind in Southeast Asia, located in northern Ninh
Binh province.
The procession of the Buddha and eminent monks’ cremated remains to Bai Dinh
Pagoda in the afternoon of the day was expected to draw some 10,000 pilgrims.
The pagoda is scheduled to open the area holding Buddhist treasures to pilgrims
and visitors until June 14.
Buddhist doctrines made it that Buddha’s remains were cremated over 2,500 years
ago and well preserved until now.
