A thousand ao dai designs for Hanoi’s 1,000th birthday
Reputed fashion designer David
Minh Duc will present 1,000 ao dai designs in Hanoi in October 2010 for the
city’s 1,000th anniversary.
The traditional Vietnamese outfits, all of them hand-sewn and hand-embroidered,
will be made of classic materials like silk, satin, chiffon, taffeta and the tan
silk known as tussore.
Duc said their patterns will attempt to tell stories from Vietnamese history.
Some will be gilded, others will incorporate gemstones.
The ao dai presented in the first part of his show will be modifications of
traditional ethnic costumes, while the modern look will be the theme of the
second half, he said.
David Minh Duc is a famous designer of ao dai and wedding dresses in Hanoi. He
designed ao dai for contestants of the Miss Earth 2007.
