Cham ceramics on display in Nha Trang
As part of Nha Trang Sea
Festival 2009 (June 6-14), Vietnamese artisans Doan Xuan Hung and Nhat Chi Lan
are exhibiting Cham ceramics.
Hung, born in Nha Trang City in 1960 and a HCMC University of Fine Arts
graduate, has had a passion for Cham ceramics since he was young and has held
many exhibitions around the country. The items he is displaying are mostly
images of women.
Lan was born in Dalat but has lived many years in Nha Trang City. She has a
passionate love for Cham ceramics and owns a gallery of Cham ceramics in Phan
Thiet City.
*Another exhibition called “Echo from the Ocean” is being held at the Khanh Hoa
Provincial Museum in Nha Trang City as part of Nha Trang Festival 2009 featuring
antiques recovered from wrecked ships.
The event displays 15th and 16th century ceramics from a Thai cargo ship which
sank in 30-meter-deep water off the shores of Kien Giang’s Hon Dam Island and
17th-18th century Chinese ceramics in coastal areas of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh
Thuan, Khanh Hoa and Mekong Delta.
