Vietnam Airlines plans to buy 18 Airbus planes
Vietnam Airlines placed an
order for 16 single-aisle A321s and two A350-XWBs from Airbus at the Le Bourget
Paris Air Show 2009 on June 16.
The deal raised the total number of A321 aircraft under contract between the
national flagship carrier and Airbus to 41, fourteen of which have already been
delivered. In 2007, the airline signed a contract to purchase 10 A350s from
Airbus.
The contract is part of the airline’s strategic plan to meet transportation
needs after the global economic crisis is over.
According to Vietnam Airlines’ General Director Pham Ngoc Minh, the new order
showed their success in developing domestic and international routes.
Airbus’s President and CEO Tom Enders said that Vietnam would be one of the most
rapidly-developing aviation markets in Asia in the coming years.
