Fishery Profession
Investigations show that Quang
Ninh’s sea has abundant resources, with many kinds of fish and shrimp, and
products of high economic value for either domestic use or export.
Over recent years, Quang Ninh has paid attention to the upgrading of its boats
and equipment. Modernization has raised the output of the profession, while the
occupation of growing and planting products on the coast has also developed.
The practises of catching these products of the sea are still widespread. These
called: catching squids and song fish, net-catching (Cha and Chai) profession,
digging out sai sung, catching sea products by lamps...(hottext).
Quang Ninh has a large sea, with 250km coastline which stretches from Tra Co
(Mong Cai Town) border to China toward Ha Nam Island (belongs to Yen Hung)
border to Haiphong.
Results of excavations in many archaeological sites in the Halong region show
that the fisheries profession may have appeared between 6,000 and 7,000 years
ago. Finds include net-sinkers made of terra cotta and hooks and needles made of
bone from the Soi Nhu, Thoi Gieng, Ngoc Vung cultures. Today, these can be found
in the Quang Ninh Museum.
