Vietnam Journalism Day celebrated nationwide
Journalists nationwide were
feted for their manifold contributions to socioeconomic development in several
localities Saturday to mark the 84th Vietnam Journalism Day, which falls on June
21.
The Da Nang Journalists Association presented medals to nine journalists for
career excellence and awarded 50 works of excellent quality, while the city’s
People’s Committee awarded certificates of merit to media agencies that had
successfully fulfilled their tasks last year.
In the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong, the local Journalists Association
also awarded prizes for excellent works and provincial authorities praised the
work of journalists in advancing socio-economic development and social security.
Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee Secretary, Phan Van Mai,
visited the Thanh Nien Newspaper Saturday. He lauded the paper for disseminating
information about the union’s activities and several youth campaigns;
encouraging youth to participate in the campaign to “follow Ho Chi Minh’s
example in learning and living”; and strengthening patriotism.
Mai said Thanh Nien’s discovery and encouragement of talented youth and its
in-depth reporting on several youth-related issues will help the central
committee make and adjust suitable plans for its activities.
Thanh Nien also received representatives from different government agencies who
offered floral tributes and congratulatory messages to the newspaper.
Three Thanh Nien reporters – Minh Nam, Hoai Nam and Diep Duc Minh have been
chosen to receive awards presented by the 2008 National Journalism Awards
Committee. They will receive their awards at a ceremony in Hanoi that will be
aired live on Vietnam Television Station VTV1 at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
