Phu Quoc Prison Exhibition Centre opened
An exhibition centre about Phu
Quoc Prison in Kien Giang province opened to the public on June 20 .
After 5 months of construction, the centre has been extended from 105m2 to 206m2
with four exhibition sections featuring 4 different subjects each detailing
different periods. They provide historical accounts of how the French
colonialists and American imperialists had turned the beautiful Phu Quoc Island
into a hell on earth: barbarous torture against prisoners; struggles and
suffering inside the prison; objects and personal effects left behind by
witnesses.
The Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee has also spent VND 2.1 billion to help
Kien Giang upgrade the centre and produce films about Phu Quoc Prison, based
upon first hand accounts of witnesses, including “2,000 days of struggle” and 20
“speakable Portraits”.
