New undersea power cable lights up Vinpearl
Electricity has been delivered
from the mainland to a famous five-star tourism island off the central coast of
Khanh Hoa Province by underwater cable that cost more than VND25 billion (US$1.4
million).
The undersea cable from Nha Trang Town, which was completely laid by Tuesday
after 19 days, is now supplying power to the five-star Vinpearl Land Resort on
Tre Island, Vinpearl Land Tourism Joint Stock Company said adding that it will
eventually supply power to the whole island.
The 3,400 meters of cable with 12 megavolt amperes capacity, from Phu Quy Port
to Vinpearl Land, is replacing the island’s power generators.
It is the first underwater cable in the national power grid.
The 22 KV, three-phase XLPE cable is installed 1-2 meters deep in the mud and
fixed with concrete anchors 10-20 meters apart.
Nguyen Trong Hien, general director of Vinpearl Land Company, said the cable is
“a big success” in improving infrastructure at Vinpearl Land to make it more
attractive to tourists.
The power will also facilitate security and marine activities on Tre Island,
Hien said.
Vinpearl Land is expected to recoup the money invested in the cable project in
one year, he said.
