Remains of American MIA servicemen repatriated
A ceremony was held at Da Nang
International Airport on June 24 to repatriate remains of two US servicemen
missing in action (MIA) during the war in Vietnam.
Present at the ceremony was the deputy US ambassador, Virginia Palmer and the
director of the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP), Nguyen Van
Dao.
The two sets of remains were found in the central province of Quang Tri by the
VNOSMP and the Joint Prisoners of War/ Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Accounting
Command (JPAC). This was the 95th search mission they conducted from May 25 to
June 24 this year and the 110th repatriation ceremony held since 1975.
This is the first time Vietnam has allowed a US Navy ship to be deployed off the
country’s coast to search for the remains of US MIA personnel during the Vietnam
War.
