Beyond spatial dimensions
The longest, shortest,
highest, widest or largest person, animal, thing or feat; or their diametric
opposites are usual fodder for the Viet Nam Guinness Records. Now Vietkings, the
company that compiles these records, has added another category that aims to go
further than physical or material dimensions, although the records themselves
are expressed in these terms.
For instance, the Truc Lam Pagoda located in Nha Trang City’s Hon Tre island has
been recognised as the country’s biggest pagoda on an island. The largely wooden
structure designed in the traditional northern style, has 72 statues of the
Buddha of different sizes, including a stone statue that weighs 10 tonnes.
Vietkings, owned by the HCM City-based publishing company Vietbooks, has
collaborated with the Vietnamese Buddhist Sangha to make the list of
Buddhism-related records. The Viet Nam Guinness Records lists 150 national
records for unique objects, events and people related to Buddhism.
But "we are working to research and make public more new records featuring the
spirit of Buddhism around the country, enabling local and foreign visitors to
learn more about the religion and its history," says Le Tran Truong An, general
director of Vietbooks.
