Forgotten “villa village”
Forgotten “villa village”
About 15km from Hanoi, old
villas in Cu Da village, Thanh Oai district, have fallen into disrepair.
Hanoi has two ancient villages, Duong Lam and Cu Da. The most valuable houses in
Cu Da are French-style houses built around 200 years ago, and a system of
pagodas and temples.
At present, Cu Da has 50 French-style villas. Most of them are two-storey
villas, with intricate carvings and tiled with enamel tiles. These houses were
built by rich traders in the 1920s.
These old houses currently belong to farmers who are incapable of preserving
them. As a result, the French-style houses are being ruined over time.
