Trans-Vietnam cycling tour for environment launched in Hanoi
Sixty volunteers, including 15
old people, began a trans-Vietnam cycling tour at the Botanical Garden in Hanoi
on June 29 to raise public awareness of environment protection.
The tour aims to enhance communications and encourage communities to get
involved in environmental protection, especially the protection of forests and
wild animals, and to join hands to prevent climate change. It is also part of
activities to mark the 50th anniversary of historic Ho Chi Minh Trail, which has
been rebuilt into Ho Chi Minh Highway paralleling the existing trans-national
highway No1.
Communication campaigns on the environment will be launched in provinces and
cities where the volunteers are cycling through, including Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh,
Kon Tum and Dak Lak.
The more than 2,000-km long journey will finish in HCM City on August 5.
The tour is being jointly hosted by the Cycling for Environment Club (C4E), the
Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection and the Centre for
Youth Activities of Thua Thien-Hue province.
