Gong culture to be revived at first international Gong festival
The first international Gong
festival will be held in Gia Lai Province and will gather Gong cultural features
of not only Vietnamese people, but also peoples from regional countries like
Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia.
There will be a large number of cultural and art activities that will take place
at the festival, including performances featuring the legend of holy sword and
praying for rain, New Year Festivities, and traditional worshipping rituals, Gia
Lai Provincial People’s Committee and the organising board stated at a recent
news conference.
Although the event is held during the economic recession, it still has received
much domestic and international support and attention.
Also, the organising board said, they will try to restore lost and missing
pieces of the valuable, intangible, and unwritten Gong cultural heritage that
was recognised by UNESCO.
The festival can also be seen as a good chance for local authorities and tourism
businesses to promote and attract tourists to the Central Highlands highlighting
various famous landmarks with their own and unique tangible and intangible
cultural heritages.
